Meet Mark, one of the many individuals supported by the Center's Employment Gateway.
Mark had one desire, and that was to work. Mark lives with his aunt in Winston-Salem. He is very independent and travels the city with his bus pass. His favorite place to visit is the library. He found creative ways to fill his day, but he wanted a job. With the help of his aunt, Mark contacted several agencies in the are requesting training and assistance with job placement.
Mark and his aunt found out about the Center's Employment Gateway and he began to work with his Employment Specialist, Torrance Walker. Within a month's time, Mark had several community-based assessments and was placed in a job. Torrance made sure that adaptations were made at the job site to ensure Mark's success.
Mark is now employed at Bojangle's. He is very proud to wear his uniform every day, especially his name badge. Mark proudly wears his audible time piece to make sure he is on time to work and returns from his breaks in timely manner. His supervisor said that Mark is "an asset to the company" and he is "confident in Mark's abilities to fulfill his job duties". Mark is currently receiving Supported Employment and will be transitioning soon to Long-Term Vocational Supports.
With the help of CenterPoint Human Services and The Enrichment Center, Mark's dream has finally come true!
