On Wednesday, July 15, Gateway Gallery artists Victoria Allen, Jonathan Lindsay, Adam Ploch, Corey Williams, Julie Mack, and Kenyanna Higgins, accompanied by Center staff members Caroline Boyd, Shannon Wolfe, and Alva Richardson, visited the SIDE Chair Library at Salem College. They met Jason Phillips, VP, Sales & Marketing, and Rachael Bozsik, Marketing, both from the Phillips Collection, who introduced our group to Dr. Rosa Otero, Director of Design, Salem College.
Dr. Otero directs the SIDE Chair Library which consists of more than 40 chairs that are considered "icons" by furniture historians. This "teaching" chair collection was established in 2012. The Center's artists will be working on a project using their visit to see the chairs for inspiration to create their own chair designs. Jason and Rachael of Phillips Collection have worked hard to encourage and guide our students through the creative process. And this connection to Dr. Otero and Salem College provides our artists another layer of design inspiration to compliment their High Point Furniture Market exposure.
